Brussels orders 102 more new trams : STIB/MIVB, the public transport operator in the Belgian capital, has signed a EUR 250 M contract with Bombardier which should see 102 new trams arrive on the system in 2009-13.

The order exercises an option in the contract for 68 Flexity trams that have been delivered in 2005-8 and most will be of the 32-m series 3000; 25 could be of the 43-m series 4000.

The new stock will see the start of the replacement of the 7700-series six-axle articulated PCCs and possibly some of the 7900-series eight-axle cars. Others will permit the expansion of the tramway system.
