Tram trains for Blackpool? : Professor Sir Peter Hall is leaving regeneration company ReBlackpool to head up a major bid for European funding for an extension to Blackpool’s tramway. The plans for the tramway is to link the existing route with the South Fylde railway line to serve Blackpool Airport and would take Blackpool trams through to Preston.

The Regio Citadis cars built by France-based Alstom are being considered for the Tram-Train service: The cost of the link is estimated at GBP50 million pounds.

The plans have, however, been criticised by the Blackpool and Fylde Rail Users Association who are pressing for improvements to the existing rail service.
