Adelaide extension planned : Plans have been announced for the extension of the Glenelg-city tramline to West Lakes, Port Adelaide and Semaphore at a cost of AUD162 million. This is part of an AUD648 million update to public transport in the city which will include new light rail vehicles and buses and electrification of the rail network.

Work is expected to start shortly on the first phase of the extension, to the Entertainment Centre, and trams are expected to be running on the new line by 2010. To address capacity issues on the already overcrowded tram service, the Government has also committed to buying or leasing six new or second-hand trams in the short term.
