Madrid trams for Adelaide : Six Alstom Citadis 302 trams that were built for the Spanish city of Madrid will instead be sent to Adelaide as part of a $AUD36 million fleet deal announced by Transport Minister Pat Conlon. The trams were built for Madrid transport group MINTRA for a light rail project but not required as the project was scaled back due to the global recession.

The AUD6 million cost for each tram was around the same as buying them new, but the deal would help solve capacity problems a lot quicker than ordering new trams and waiting for them to be constructed. As the trams had been built for Madrid's hot climate they are fitted with full air conditioning. It is expected that after undergoing minor modifications they will enter service around Christmas/New Year
