New trams for Blackpool : Bombardier's transportation division has won a GBP 33m contract to supply trams for Blackpool. The company has signed a deal with the Department for Transport, Blackpool Council and Lancashire County Council, to build 16 Flexity 2 trams. The vehicles manufactured in Germany and Austria are scheduled to be delivered between May 2011 and March 2012.

Blackpool thus becomes the fourth British city after London, Nottingham and Manchester to select Bombardier light rail products.

This follows, what is believed to be the world's largest light rail order, which was for 204 Flexity Outlook trams worth CAD 1.2 billion recently placed by Toronto.
