Nottingham Phase 2 approval : The government has given conditional approval for GBP 530M of funding for the extensions to Clifton and Chilwell. It has also sanctioned Britain’s first workplace parking levy which will fund the city council’s contribution to the scheme. This will now allow Nottingham City Council to begin the procurement process. Subject to a successful outcome construction of the extensions is scheduled to start in 2011 and open in 2014

The workplace paring levy will allow Nottingham City Council to raise cash needed for the local contribution to NET phase two and will also support the GBP 67m redevelopment of Nottingham's railway station and the Link bus network. The start of the charge has been delayed until April 2012, two years later than originally planned to give businesses respite during the recession and the government has agreed to cover the shortfall in revenue so the programme for public transport investment will not be disrupted.
