Passengers about to embark the 06:02 departure from Toton Lane 25/08/15

Following a delay of 8 months, at 06:02 on 25 August 2015 two of Nottingham's 22 strong Citadis fleet simultaneously left Clifton South and Toton Lane Park and Ride sites, with the first revenue earning services along the new Nottingham Express Transit extensions (Phase 2). The total fleet of trams is now 37; Phase 1 of NET required 15 Bombardier built Incentros. The network now extends to 32Km up from 14.5Km with 28 new tram stops and is expected to carry 20m passengers per annum. Independent economists have suggested that the GBP580m (783m Euro) will generate up to GBP300m (412m Euro) of increased economic activity per annum in the region.

The towns of Clifton and Beeston have been connected with interchanges built in the town centres. In and around Beeston alone there has been over GBP150m (200m Euro) of planning applications approved in the last 12 months.

Plans are already afoot to further extend the network with the HS2 station at Toton and an extension to Kimberley being the fore-runners. However, Council leaders from other parts of the connurbation are now demanding that phase 3 runs to their towns.
