LRTA advocates integrated urban public transport which is:
Reliable
Safe
Cost-effective
Accessible to all
Environmentally sustainable
Tramways/light rail have a major role in cities in high-demand corridors
Tramways/light rail are particularly well-suited to providing an integrated service which implies:
Through ticketing between modes
Ease of physical transfer between modes
Co-ordination with land use, development and re-development
Good road design for trams and buses
LRTA also advocates:
Good facilities for the mobility-impaired, pedestrians and cyclists
Appropriate traffic management to maximise benefit of tramways
Heavy to Light rail conversion where suitable
