Dublin tram unveiled

The first of 40 trams for the Luas lines serving Tallaght and Sandyford was unveiled on Sunday by the Taoiseach, Mr Ahern and the Minister for Public Enterprise, Mrs O'Rourke. The tram was installed in front of the government buildings in Dublin’s Merrion Square on specially laid track. The tram will be moved on Tuesday to the Luas Red Cow depot where it will be used for testing and training once the track is ready in February. The remaining trams, built by Alstom in La Rochelle (France) will be delivered at a rate of one a month until the Luas light-rail service starts in mid-2003.
