Trams For Verona

The first two routes of a planned three-route system in this Italian city will be built by a Siemens-led consortium for EUR 126 million. By mid-2004 route 1 will run from Stadio Bentegodi in the west through the city centre to FS Porta Nuova and on to a park-and-ride site at San Michele Extra in the eastern suburbs, and route 2 from Piazetta XVI Ottobre in the city centre to Ospedale Borgo Roma in the south. This phase totals 15 km and will be served by 22 19-m Combino low-floor trams. A second phase will see route 2 extended by 4 km to a southern park-and-ride, and a northern route 3 from the city centre to FS Parona.
