Blackpool refurbishment

The tram line between Thornton Gate and Fleetwood will be closed for three months in the New Year for major track repairs. This work is needed as the track has deteriorated in places to such an extent as to prevent the operation of double-deck trams through to Fleetwood. Trams will stop running through to Fleetwood from January 6 and the track is expected to be fully reopened by April 11. The sections of track to be re-laid are from Westmorland Avenue to Way Gate, Rossall Lane to South Strand, and Ash Street to Mayfield Place. The work will cost some GBP1.2m and is being financed by Blackpool Transport, Blackpool Council and Lancashire County Council. A replacement bus service will operate from Thornton Gate to Fleetwood timed to meet each tram from Blackpool.
