AnsaldoBreda LRVs for LA

Los Angeles' RTA has ordered 50 six-axle articulated LRVs from AnsaldoBreda for its Pasadena Gold Line and Eastside extension projects. After a competitive bidding process the USD 158.74 million contract was awarded to the Italian company representing a price of USD 3 million/car plus spare parts. There are options for two further tranches of 50 cars at more favourable prices. Second-highest bidder was Kinki Sharyo of Japan; Bombardier decided not to bid, and Siemens' bid was deemed non-compliant.
