Fourth light rail line for Los Angeles

28 April saw the approval by the Metropolitan Transit Authority of a USD 640 million budget to build Los Angeles' fourth light rail line, 15.4-km on Exposition Blvd from the City Centre to Culver City. Subject to the approval of the final environmental impact report in September, work will start in 2006 for completion in 2010/11. This is the first phase of a line to Santa Monica. Unlike previous light rail projects in LA, it will be built mostly with local money rather than relying on federal grant.
