Angers tramway to feature Alstom cars and APS

The new tramway in the French city of Angers, due to open in 2009 (see article in the August 2007 edition of Tramways & Urban Transit) has announced an EUR 45 million contract for the delivery of 17 Citadis low-floor trams. The order is firm for the design work and production of a mock-up, and conditional for the order for 17 trams (this part of the contract will become firm as soon as the city receives its legal authority to go ahead with the tramway scheme in June 2007). The city has also decided to use the APS (Alimentation Par Sol) surface current collection system, pioneered in Bordeaux, on sections in the city centre and the suburban community of Avrillé.
