Palermo tramway goes ahead with Bombardier

A three-line 15.3-km tramway system is to be built in the Italian city of Palermo for EUR 192 million. The public transport authority AMAT has now ordered 17 FLEXITY Outlook double-ended low-floor trams from Bombardier for EUR 69 million, with delivery starting in 2009. The price includes a four-year maintenance contract. The 32.5-m trams will be 100% low floor and air-conditioned. The first line of the new tramway is expected to open in December 2009, and the other two in April 2010.
