Light Rail News: Index 2007 > Kassel tram-trains reach city centre; 3 July 2007 |
The imminent completion of the link at Kassel Hbf between the DBAG rail tracks and the street tramway means that the dual-mode and dual-voltage tram-trains in the Kassel fleet will soon be offering through services between rail lines serving the city's hinterland and the city centre. Subject to the satisfactory testing and certification of the new signaling equipment that will control the changeover between railway and tramway environments, 19 August should see the extension of service RT4 from Wolfhagen into the city centre via Rathaus-Fünffensterstrasse. This service is worked by the diesel-electric tram-trains, since the rail tracks to Wolfhagen are not electrified. On 16 September services RT3 from Hofgeismar and service RT5 from Melsungen will be extended to Leipziger Platz in the centre of Kassel. These services are worked by the dual-voltage tram-trains (15kV ac and 750V dc) since the DB tracks on these lines are electrified.
