New Orleans tramways fully re-opened

22 June saw the completion of the reconstruction of New Orleans' tramway infrastructure, when the final section of the St Charles line on Carrollton Street was re-opened. An official celebration took place on 28 June. At present all three New Orleans tramlines (St Charles, Canal Street and Waterfront) are operated by the green Perley Thomas trams that survived the flooding in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina unscathed. The red Canal St and Waterfront cars that were flooded in their depot are still being refurbished and should start re-entering service in July, permitting operating frequencies to be returned to their pre-Katrina levels.
