Although last year the Labour Government pledged to pay GBP530 million of the GBP680 million for the extension of the tram system to Clifton via Wilford, and Chilwell via Beeston there has been uncertainty hanging over the project since the Coalition came to power.
But now the project has been given the go-ahead, although it is understood that the Government funding will be less than previously expected, leaving the council to find more of the money which the city council was planning to raise through the proposed workplace parking levy.
Nottingham Express Transit (NET) was awarded the prestigious title “Operator of the Year” at the 2010 Light Rail Awards. This is the second time NET has won this accolade during its seven years of operation. This title was also collected by Nottingham Tram Consortium in 2007.
